They checked us in our first room and told me I was dilated to a 3 so in I went to the delivery room! When we got in the room, which was about 3:30 am I called my mom back to tell her I was only at a 3 and I would call her again when things picked up, this was her response, "We are already in the car! I feel like it's Christmas there is no way I could go back to sleep! See you in a minute!" I have the cutest mom. When I got into the delivery room they came in to give me my IV. This. was. awful. I was dehydrated because it was the middle of the night and lets be honest, I hadn't done that great at drinking water the day before. It took them five different locations before they finally found a vein that they could get blood out of. It just happened to be in the crease of my left arm, so there I was unable to bend my left arm all through the delivery, oh well. My parents and Trav and I hung out from 4 am until about 9:30 am waiting for the contractions to start...nothing. We were watching movies and playing phase 10 while we were waiting. The only thing that was happening was the amniotic fluid kept coming...I never knew so much was inside of me! I loved lying there and listening to my baby's heartbeat waiting for things to progress. I tried to sleep but was too excited/nervous to at all. By the way, next time I have a baby I am totally grabbing something to eat before I go to the hospital to eat on the way. I was so hungry by this point!
At 9:30 am Jill, my labor and delivery nurse whom I loved!, came to tell me I had three options at this point because my contractions hadn't started really going yet. I could walk around the hospital, bounce on a yoga ball, or just get it really going and get induced. What about option D?! Can't I just tag out and let someone else have this baby?! I'm not sure I'm ready to have this baby yet. I'm fine just sitting here, really! Well I got brave and told to her to just give me the meds. We didn't think there was a good chance doing the other two options. So she came in and got me all hooked up and we started at a one with the medication and we were off! By 11 am I was dilated about to a 7 and thought that epidural sounded pretty swell to me! So the dr. came in and gave it me it. That experience wasn't bad at all! I hardly felt anything. Given the choice I was much rather get an epidural than an IV. My parents left the room a little while before I got the epidural and Trav's parents got there about the same time to wait in the hall with them. I could see that seeing me in pain was making them emotional an hard on all of us so they left the room early. I have never had a surgery or IV of any kind but I have to say the feeling of the cold liquid running down my back from the epidural was awesome! Of course, so was the immediate relief I felt. I love medicine. By 1 pm I was dilated up to a 9 and 100% effaced. Dr. Codd came in to check my progress and when he felt Trey's head he noticed it was slightly tilted so they decided to let my contractions go another hour to see if that would cause his head to move on his own. Later when Jill came in to check at 2, she gave me the go ahead to start pushing! I pushed from 2:15 until 2:45 when they ran to go get the dr. and told me not to push unless I wanted to deliver this baby without him. So he came in the room and got settled and told me to push, then had to quickly say to just push 50% so the baby didn't come out too fast. After an half hour of pushing and one push with the dr., I had this precious little infant placed on my stomach and couldn't believe that he was ours. All Trav and I could do was sit and stare at him. He was the most precious thing I had ever seen. The immediate joy we got from having him in out family was such special experience. They really are tiny little angels sent straight from Heaven.
It was a also a good thing I got him out so fast because the umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck. His feet and hands came out a little purple but he gave us a good, quick cry and then was fine. I tore and still had to have a small episiotomy but thank goodness for the epidural I didn't feel a thing! He came out so fast my body had no time to stretch.

We were so surprised by how small Trey was. I had gestational diabetes and we were expecting a larger baby. As they placed him on the scale it read 6 lbs 2 oz 19 in long and I couldn't believe it! That was 2.5 lbs less than we thought he was going to be! He was my sweet little boy! His sugars were low and they had to keep pricking his foot to test his sugars but my tough little guy didn't cry all the times they had to do it. Because of his sugar levels we had to stay the 48 hours but by the time we had to go, he was keeping them up and doing wonderfully! He is so loved by his family and we are grateful for Trey B. Darrel Price!!! We sure do love him!!!
We love you Trey!!!
